We Are Generous - Week 2

Leader Guide

Last week we learned that tithing is an act of obedience and trust—giving back to God what already belongs to Him. This week we’ll explore what it means to go above and beyond—to live a generous life with our time, talents and treasures. Generosity is not just a transaction; it’s a transformation of the heart. It’s not about our works but that Jesus paid a high price for us, and we should have the desire to live that out. There is not a finish line in generosity. When we give from love, not obligation, we mirror the character of Christ—who gave everything for us.

What you will need: A Bible or your Bible app, a notebook, pen, and highlighter. The verses highlighted below are linked so that you can easily access them during your study time.

Leader: This section is designed to get discussions started, examine God’s truth, and apply it to our week. Life Group leaders should not assume everyone in their group is a Christ follower. Because they are taking part in a Life Group, they must have some openness to know more and explore. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work and let Him lead you as well.

1. What hobbies, daily routines or items do you tend to spend too much money on? Share one hidden talent you have?

2. Read Deuteronomy 16:17, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8. According to these verses what attitude should we have when giving? How can we give cheerfully not just money but with our time and skills?

Leader: God isn't looking for equal gifts—He's looking for equal sacrifice. Generosity should flow from gratitude, not guilt.

3. Read 1 Peter 4:10-11, Matthew 25:14-30. What gifts or abilities has God entrusted to you? How can using your gifts for others bring glory to God? In what ways might we “bury” our talents today—and what keeps us from using them?

Leader: God doesn’t expect perfection—just participation. Every talent, no matter how small it may seem, can make a Kingdom impact when offered to Him.

4. Read Ephesians 5:15-17, Colossians 3:23-24, Matthew 6:21. What do these verses teach us about how we use our time? Why is time sometimes harder to give than money? What might it look like to be generous with your presence—listening, helping, or serving. What might your “treasures” be revealing about your heart?

Leader: Being generous with your talents and time shows love in action. It shows others and Christ that we love like Him.

Action Steps: Evaluate which area—time, talent, or treasure, is the easiest for you to give? Which is the hardest? Identify one intentional way to serve, help, or give this week and throughout the coming holidays, especially with our friends who may be struggling with food. Ask God to grow your heart for generosity so that it becomes your lifestyle, not one single act. Remember there is not a “finish line” in giving. Generosity is not measured by what we give, but by the heart that gives it.

Deeper Dive (Optional): Read 2 Corinthians 8:1-5. What stands out to you about their attitude toward giving? How did they first give themselves to the Lord before giving their resources? What does it look like to give beyond ability—not recklessly but sacrificially and joyfully.
