Eden to Eternity Week 6

Discussion Guide

As we pick back up and travel on through the Bible in our series Eden to Eternity, we arrive on the scene where the Israelites have been in captivity to the Babylonians due to their sin and disobedience. Now they have returned and are starting the process of rebuilding. God is giving them a fresh start. Many of us may find ourselves in a very similar situation in life. This past weekend we learned some biblical principles to rebuilding God’s way.

What you will need: A Bible or your Bible app, a notebook, pen, and highlighter. The verses highlighted below are linked so that you can easily access them during your study time.

Jump Start

1. Have you ever tried to assemble something (furniture, toy, tech) only to realize it wasn’t as easy as you thought? What did you learn from that experience about patience or following instructions?

2. Read Ezra 3:1-3. Why do you think rebuilding the altar came before the temple walls or houses? What does that teach us about putting worship and relationship with God first? Is there an area of your life that needs a spiritual “altar-first” rebuild (e.g., marriage, character, finances)?

3. Read Ezra 3:4-6. Why did the Israelites celebrate even while surrounded by enemies? Why is praising God in chaos challenging but vital? How can we practically worship through fear or uncertainty this week?

4. Read Ezra 3:11-12, Isaiah 43:18-19. Some shouted for joy; others wept remembering the former temple. Why the different reactions? When are you tempted to live in the past—whether regrets or “the good ol’ days”? How is God inviting you to embrace the new things He is doing?

5. Read Ezra 10:10-11, Philippians 3:13-14. What did God call the Israelites to confess or change? What does pressing “toward the goal” look like for you personally?

6. Action Steps: Where in your life is God prompting a rebuild? What one practical step of obedience or surrender can you take this week to honor God more?

Deeper Dive (Optional): Read John 4:1-30. How was this woman trapped by her past? How did Jesus offer her a new start? What parallels do you see to God’s invitation to us today?
