Wednesday - REPEATEDLY CHOOSING COMMITMENT

REPEATEDLY CHOOSING COMMITMENT

Today’s Scripture: “And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord.” 1 Samuel 3:19-20, ESV

Theme: Listening and following God throughout our lives shows a lifelong, true commitment to Him.

DEDICATED TO GOD

Just as Samuel surrendered his heart as a young boy, he had to commit his life as an adult. His love and service to God were shown throughout his life in taking stands and speaking for God, even when it was unpopular or dangerous.

LARGE AND SMALL WAYS

Samuel’s commitment was not a one-time event. His commitment was shown in large and small ways throughout his life, also. He had not lied or stolen. He had not taken bribes, but he had judged rightly. His dedication to the Lord showed up in his actions.

CONTINUED COMMITMENT

Commitment isn't always one huge event. Yes, you commit to marry your spouse in a wedding service. Or you join a sports team. But the commitment is never just saying that you're committed. It's the mental adjustments that cause you to follow through and do the acts that show you're committed. For example: blocking off time in your schedule, budgeting and saving to support the activity, and getting adequate rest and fuel to be able to give your best effort.

Make it Personal: Consider your own commitments. What have you already promised to do? Are you following through, in your family, in your lifestyle, in your church, and your service to God? If not, does neglecting your commitments honor Him? Take time to pray, commit, and then act out those commitments, making them a priority.

Pray: God, please help me to prioritize my commitments well and to follow through on the things You have planned for me to accomplish. I want to honor You. Amen.
