YOU GET TO SERVE... JESUS
Daphne Powell
Today’s Scripture: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:40, NIV
Theme: Getting off the sidelines to serve others really means I’m serving God.
SUNDAY CHRISTIANS
You get up and get dressed and head to church. You listen to the message and get filled with His Word. For many Christians, it stops there. You say you want to serve, but you are too busy. Busy for who and for what? A day, a week can fly by. We have to be intentional when it comes to making our schedule revolve around our life with Jesus and not our worldly life. We serve a mighty God, and we need to serve others.
JESUS IS THE EXAMPLE
How can we know how to serve? Jesus was the example. He went out into the community. He went out and spoke to everyone. He went out, so serving means we have to go out. Why do we serve? Jesus was the example. He showed love, grace, and miracles. Jesus has left His disciples (all of us) to carry on. We serve and show people His love, His grace, and even His miracles.
HIS TIME
Every day, even if we wake up, pray, and thank Him, we need to do more. We need action: we need to worship and serve. By serving, we show others how we love Him. We show that our time is His time. Each night when we lay our heads on the pillow, we should know that we have given God our precious, limited time.
YOU GET TO...
When you serve, you get to meet people and share their testimony. You meet the kids excited about getting their first Bible. You get to pray with the woman who just got a cancer diagnosis. You get to see the family in need of food being fed and full. You get to serve parents who are just trying to get by, by teaching them how to call on Him. The Lord tells us to plant seeds. That is very hard to do from our living room sofas. We have to get up, go out, and SERVE!!
Make it Personal: I have served for most of my life in the church: ushering, collection of goods for students and teachers, outreach, greeting, choir, Bible study, children’s church, hospitality, scholarship, and a few more. Why? I love meeting people and sharing the Good News. Because my time is a gift from Him, I cheerfully serve!.
Pray: Dear Lord, we thank You every day for giving us another day to get it right. Let us be bold when speaking to people about Jesus. Let us serve cheerfully and make serving You a priority. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
