WHAT AM I MISSING?
Christine Fornaro
Today’s Scripture: “For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them.” Acts 28:27, ESV
Theme: If we can’t see or hear from the Holy Spirit, consider asking God to reveal habitual or overlooked sin in order that we may receive spiritual healing.
HOW’S YOUR HEARING?
All of us have times when we feel like God isn’t near, or that we haven’t heard that still, small voice in a while. Dry seasons will certainly come and go. Spiritual dryness can be a signal that we need to be refilled with the Spirit. However, it can also be a sign of habitual or overlooked sin. Our hearts and minds can grow dull to God’s voice. We are prone to going through the motions of our Christian walk, but God wants us to remain in the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is what convicts us of sin and our need for change.
GROWING INTO THE BEST VERSION
Once we are saved, we aren’t a “finished product.” God never leaves us the same as He finds us – filled with sin, hurt, bad habits, and hangups. He doesn’t intend for us to remain the same. He sees us as we can (with His help) be – the best version of ourselves on this side of Heaven. God doesn’t want us continuing to slug through a life with hangups and habits that harm. He wants us to live lives full of joy, peace, contentment, strength in the Lord and confidence in Him. We will never be perfect, of course, and sin will be there crouching at our door. But we can be moldable and a willing participant in our spiritual transformation.
Make It Personal: Is there a sinful habit that has been hanging around you for years? Or perhaps something that you have totally overlooked or never considered a sin? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to see what in your life is hindering your relationship with Him. Then ask and allow Him to grow you into a better version of yourself by His strength.
Pray: Lord, help me to see any roadblocks that might be keeping me from knowing you better. I know you want what is best for me, help me to keep in step with your will for my life. Thank you for your Holy Spirit in guiding me and never leaving me alone, even when I stray from you.
