CHANGED ALLEGIANCE
Today’s Scripture: “And the men said to her, ‘Our life for yours even to death! If you do not tell this business of ours, then when the Lord gives us the land we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.’” Joshua 2:14, ESV
Theme: Following through exactly on your God-inspired commitments really matters.
AN ALLIANCE
As we have been learning, when Rahab hid the spies and lied to the king's men, she became an ally of Israel and an enemy of Jericho and the Canaanites. Understanding her actions could result in death for herself and her family, she asked the spies to make a commitment. She asked them to swear that they would spare her family’s lives. The spies replied, “Our lives for yours!” if she would keep quiet and also commit to tying a scarlet cord in her window.
FOLLOW THROUGH ON COMMITMENTS
Rahab let them escape through her window and told them to hide in the hills for three days. The spies did so, then returned to Joshua, telling him everything that had happened. We know they told him about their promise because Joshua remembered it when the children of Israel approached Jericho to conquer it. Rahab also did her part by tying the scarlet cord in her window. Both sides made commitments to each other and kept them.
Make It Personal: As soon as we make a commitment to God, we become an ally or friend of God—and an enemy of Satan. Remain firm and steadfast in your faith and commitments, taking the small steps that you're sure are part of God's plan. You can trust God to uphold His promise to protect and provide.
Pray: Lord, thank You for providing direction and protection. Help me to hear and follow Your voice and follow through on the commitments I make. Thank You for always coming through. I appreciate Your consistency and kindness to me. You are a good Father. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
