Thursday - I SAID “NO,” BUT GOD SAID “YES!”

I SAID “NO,” BUT GOD SAID “YES!”

Katey Honan

Today’s Scripture: “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’” Isaiah 6:8, ESV

Theme: We serve globally because when we received the opportunity, we were willing to go at God’s command.

NOT HAVING ALL THE ANSWERS

I didn’t know why I showed up to the Global Mission Interest Meeting. I thought I was there just to get more information as a staff member and learn about our Global ministry so I could inform others. Turns out, God’s plans were bigger. He opened my heart to say “yes” to something that had never before been on my radar.

Did that mean I jumped right in? Absolutely not. I waited until the very last minute to sign up to go. I was too worried about leaving my family behind, all the logistics, and how everything would happen without me here.

But I kept preparing and did what I could. I set up childcare and transportation, minimized the events on my work and family calendar, and God took care of the rest. He filled in the gaps for my family and aligned special memories to develop both for my family in the U.S. and myself in South Africa.

Our job is not to have all the answers, but to be obedient to God’s Word and what He may be calling us to do in each season. Not having all the answers allows us to see God do what only He can do!

ARE YOU BEING CALLED TO SOMETHING?

I never imagined being in ministry, and certainly not overseas on mission. My emotions and empathy run deep, and I didn’t think I could “handle” it. Turns out, this was a part of God’s plan all along. He sustained my emotions, but He also let them break when I needed them, too. I leaked love to my brothers and sisters in South Africa through my tears.

My first trip has turned into an annual trip, having now gone three years in a row. My heart yearns to be in South Africa each day, with our sponsored daughter, The Cove Church (South Africa) staff, and that entire community. I have found that God is so present when you allow yourself to be present!

LET GOD BE GOD

God is working out all the details for you, too. He is in every detail. He knows the very number of hairs on your head (Luke 12:7).

“God is in this story

God is in the details

Even in the broken parts

He holds my heart, He never fails

When I'm at my weakest

I will trust in Jesus

Always in the highs and lows

The One who goes before me

God is in this story.”   God Is In This Story, by Katy Nicole

Our God equips the called. And He is calling you, to something greater; something you’re not qualified for; something you are not equipped for. But God!

Make It Personal: Is there something that you are saying “No” to? What do you need in order to say “Yes” to God and His plans in your life?

Pray: Lord Jesus, we pray for Your Holy Spirit to reveal Himself and what You are calling us to do in this season. Lord, we thank You for knowing all the details, for filling in the gaps when we don’t have all the answers. We long for Your glory, honor, and power to shine when we have nothing left. Thank You, Lord, for the unexpected blessings in our lives when You call us to “Go” and we obey. We pray that You will speak to those who are hesitant; reveal their next steps. And we pray You would fill in the gaps and make Yourself seen. We love You so much. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
