Monday - THE QUIET WORK OF THE SPIRIT

THE QUIET WORK OF THE SPIRIT

Dylan Blanton

Today’s Scripture: “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8, ESV

Theme: The Holy Spirit is mysterious; however, He can be heard and followed by those “born of the Spirit.”

LIKE THE WIND

In our Scripture for today, John 3:8, Jesus compared the work of the Holy Spirit to the wind. The wind is unseen, unpredictable, and uncontrollable by human effort. We can’t find the wind’s origin, or control its path, but we know that the wind is real because we can see and feel its effects. In the same way, the Spirit often works in our lives and in the world in ways that we can’t see or fully understand, yet the results are undeniable!

BEHIND THE SCENES

A powerful picture of this unseen support comes from the Apollo space missions. While astronauts like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made history by walking on the moon, their survival depended on people most of us have never heard of—seamstresses who sewed the astronauts’ space suits. Machines couldn’t do the job; it required hands that could stitch seams with flawless precision. If the suits failed, even slightly, the astronauts would not have lived. Though these women never stood in front of cameras or climbed into a rocket, their hidden work was essential to the success of the mission.

HELD TOGETHER

The Holy Spirit works in a similar way—quietly, powerfully, and often behind the scenes. You may not always notice His presence, but He is the One sustaining your spiritual life, guiding your steps, and shaping you into the image of Christ. Just as the seamstresses’ unseen stitches held the astronauts’ lives together, the Spirit’s unseen work holds together our faith, our hope, and our growth in God.

Make It Personal: It can be easy to underestimate the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives because we don’t always directly see what is being done. Take some time to reflect on what the Holy Spirit is doing inside of you and pray to ask God to help you trust in that work.

Pray: God, we thank You for the work You are doing in us each and every day. Even though we may not see or fully understand what You are doing, please help us to trust You and Your plan for our lives. We ask that You continue to guide us and mold us into who You would have us be. In Your Name we pray, Amen!

Read: 1 Corinthians 2:9-12, 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

Weekly Memory Verse: “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” John 16:7-8, ESV
