Monday - LIVING A LIFE OF SACRIFICE

LIVING A LIFE OF SACRIFICE

Today’s Scripture: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship." Romans 12:1 (NIV)

Theme: Sacrificing your life, your plans, your will to God honors and pleases Him.

SACRIFICING YOUR DREAMS

Joseph was one of a dozen sons of the patriarch Jacob; he had a great spiritual heritage. He and his brothers did not get along. He had dreams that were from God, but immaturely bragged about them to his older brothers alienating them. In his old age, Jacob unwisely favored Joseph with the infamous “coat of many colors.” The brothers become even more jealous of Joseph. When they had the opportunity to get him away from home, they took off the special robe and sold him into slavery.

After Joseph was sold by his brothers, he ended up in Egypt. However, the Lord was with him and showed him favor, even as a slave. Joseph was bought by Potiphar, a wealthy and influential Egyptian. When Potiphar noticed that the Lord was with Joseph and that he had success in everything he did, Potiphar made Joseph the manager of his household.

SURRENDERING YOUR FUTURE

However, with his success came temptations and soon Joseph would have to choose whether to make compromises, sacrifice his integrity, and damage his relationship with God. The biggest temptation came through Potiphar's wife. Knowing God’s commandment regarding adultery, Joseph refused her advances and fled the scene. His sacrifice caused him to face false accusations and imprisonment, but it eventually brought him freedom and placed him in the position to be used mightily by God.

Make It Personal: Where are my dreams and desires taking precedent and priority over God’s will, His commandments, or His “next step” directions for me? How has following Jesus changed my values and lifestyle?

Pray: Lord, help me to hear You clearly. Then give me Your strength to obey and replace my will with Yours. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
