DON’T WORRY GIVE IT TO GOD
Daphne Powell
Today's Scripture: “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Matthew 6:34, NLT
Theme: Rather than focus on the future or the past, depend on God to understand the situation and provide direction.
SECOND CHANCE
In the movie “Top Gun: Maverick,” it’s all about second chances. Likewise, our God, through prayer, gives us a second chance. When we repent of our sins and pray for forgiveness, His grace and mercy restore us. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ covers us. But what happens when we need a third chance? Praise God, He gives us chance after chance after chance to get it right. The question is: why do we have so little faith to hand over our troubles to Him and trust Him?
DON’T LOOK BACK
Maybe the question is do we truly feel forgiven? If we truly have faith and have asked for forgiveness, why do we keep praying for forgiveness of the same issue over and over? Maybe you feel that your sin is unforgivable? Not possible. He forgives all if you come to Him in prayer and humility. How can we grow if we spend so much time looking back? When the Lord has forgiven us, why can’t or won’t we forgive ourselves?
THE LORD’S PRAYER
When we wake up worried about next week, let’s refocus on how we are living today. In the Lord’s Prayer, I love this verse: “Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11, ESV). It does not say, “Give us bread for yesterday” or “Give us bread for tomorrow.” We are to ask God for bread for THIS day only. We are to have faith that He will provide. So, when we worry, we show a lack of faith in the mercy and grace that we know He can provide.
GRACE MEANS PEACE
Our soul is at peace when we trust the Lord. When we wake up in the morning and start with prayer and worship, and when we end the day on our knees, humbly thanking Him, the worrying should cease. Peace should start to find its way into our daily lives.
Make It Personal: It’s easier said than done when it comes to forgiving ourselves. Shame has us trying to hide from Him, but we can’t hide! He knows us and loves us anyway! When I think about my kids and how I love and forgive them each time they need forgiving, I wonder why I let my past sins consume my day. Do we let a calendar filled with next weeks’ “must-dos” ruin today? Let’s try to wake up and live in this day, knowing that His grace and mercy are with us. Live in the present and honor Him.
Pray: Lord Most High, give us this day our daily bread. We want to thank You for forgiving us for our sins, for walking with us, and sometimes even carrying us when needed. I want to live this day for You, knowing that past sins have been forgiven and that I will not worry about tomorrow but live in today. Amen.
