WHEN WALLS FALL DOWN
Kimberly Lawrence
Today's Scripture: “So, the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.” Joshua 6:20 ESV
Theme: Worship God when He brings victory in your life.
CRAZY OBEDIENCE
Before the walls of Jericho fell, God asked the Israelites to do something which must have seemed crazy! Instead of attacking the city with weapons, they were told to march around it once a day for six days, led by priests blowing trumpets. How could that possibly lead to victory? I imagine the people of Jericho were laughing at them!
Then, the powerful moment. The walls fell…not by human strength, but by obedience and faith in God. The people didn’t conquer the city with a clever strategy or superior power. They followed God, lifted their voices and watched Him work!
MOVING ON…
Have you prayed, then received, from God? Maybe it was healing…of your body, for a loved one, or in a relationship. Perhaps it was a financial blessing after a particularly difficult time. Have you overcome an addiction or destructive lifestyle thanks to God? Has He given you strength and endurance to bring you through a situation that, when looking back, could only have been accomplished through Him? I’ve often contemplated how much time I spend praising God for an answered prayer versus the amount of time I spent praying for that specific thing. Like me, do you move on all too quickly from receiving something on to the next thing? Let’s not miss the opportunity to not only acknowledge God, praising Him for His provision in every circumstance, but to worship Him by sharing our testimony!
Make It Personal: When God brings victory into our lives, whether over a struggle, a fear, a long season of waiting, or a difficult circumstance, it can be tempting to quickly move on. But victory is meant to lead us into worship. Just as Israel shouted before the walls fell, we are called to lift our praise when we see God’s work. He makes it easy to give Him credit because our hands could never accomplish the miraculous things we experience through Him.
Every victory is a reminder that God is the One who fights for us. The breakthroughs are not the result of our own efforts but the evidence of His faithfulness. Worshiping in those moments is declaring, “Lord, this victory belongs to You!”
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the victories You bring into my life. Help me to never take them for granted or claim them as my own. Teach me to respond with worship and gratitude, remembering that every breakthrough comes from Your hand and not my own. Remind me to continuously glorify You for every wall You bring down. Amen.
