Friday - A FORM OF WORSHIP

A FORM OF WORSHIP

Kimberly Lawrence

Today's Scripture: “Sing praises to the Lord, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds!” Psalm 9:11, ESV

Theme: Praise God by telling others about Him. Sharing your testimony is a form of worship.

ASK GOD FOR THE OPPORTUNITY

It’s our nature to tell stories about our life events. Throughout history, storytelling has been used to carry information, instruction, and tradition to future generations. In fact, the Bible exists as a collection of the experiences people shared with others. If not for the oral tradition which passed on the details of what they saw or heard before God inspired people to write it down, how would the prophesies and messages of Jesus have been preserved? How would we know of them, some 2,000+ years later?

Some people I know are natural, gifted storytellers. The details they share help me visualize and become invested in their experience. Through descriptions and their animated delivery, I can feel what they are telling me. There are two reasons I can connect so well with them in that moment. First, they are convinced. They are sharing their firsthand, personal experience, so it’s natural. Second, it’s relatable. When I hear from someone I know and trust, I empathize with what they are telling me.

Have you ever listened to our Cove Pastors tell a story about their lives during the weekend message--and you immediately related to it? Sometimes I’m so invested that I’ll laugh out loud, like they are having a conversation directly with me, even though there are hundreds of other people in the room. They are making a connection with me through their experience.

Each one of us also has a unique story about what brought us to faith in Christ. It is our own tale…a gift…and there is nothing we know better. Even though my story is personal and indisputable, it’s sometimes difficult to share with others. It can make me feel vulnerable and may involve a situation in my life that was a struggle or that I’m not particularly proud of. It may also feel intimidating. What if my testimony seems insignificant and my “hardship” pales in comparison to the struggle someone else is facing? That’s where I trust God. I know every detail of my “story” and can speak with conviction because it is a first-hand account.

EYEWITNESSES

The New Testament is full of confidently relayed stories from those who experienced Jesus firsthand. Each one of us also has our own story…our gift to share…and He will use it. I worship and honor Him when I publicly acknowledge the change He made in my heart and the evidence visible in my life. There is no fear in that because it’s mine to treasure. By hoarding it all to myself is to disrespect that gift.

Make It Personal: Today, consider the experiences that led to spiritual transformation in your life. No matter how messy they were, God is leading you to someone to share it with. Yes, it’s vulnerable; but it’s also evidence of redemption, healing, forgiveness, and a new life. There is someone near you who needs to hear it. Share it and worship God with your story of grace and thanksgiving.

Pray: God, help me to overcome my fear and to boldly tell my story of salvation. You’ve given me this precious gift and I want to worship You by sharing the transformation in me. Help me to see the person you may want me to connect with and give me the courage to start that conversation. I have confidence that You’ll give me the right words and that You will work in their hearts. Amen.
