Today's Scripture: “And the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.’” 1 Samuel 8:7, ESV  

Theme: When His people reject God’s authority, He allows them and us to endure the result of that choice. 

Today's Scripture: “Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah and said to him, ‘Behold, you are old and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.’” 1 Samuel 8:4-5, ESV  

Theme: Just like the children of Israel, we often ask someone else to tell us God’s plan for our lives rather than listening to God and letting Him rule and lead us Himself.  

Today's Scripture: “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.” Joel 2:28-29, ESV 

Theme: The Apostle Peter quoted this prophecy of Joel’s on the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out on all believers, ushering in the Church Age. 

Today’s Scripture: “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5, ESV 

Theme: The prophets continually foretold the coming Messiah with hundreds of specific prophecies, all fulfilled in Jesus. 

Today’s Scripture: “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8, ESV 

Theme: The prophets continually pointed to right living and how to please God.
