Today’s Scripture: “David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. And the elders of his house stood beside him, to raise him from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them.” 2 Samuel 12:16-17, ESV 

Theme: Fast, as David did, during a time of repentance. 

Today’s Scripture: “Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.” Matthew 4:1-2, ESV 

Theme: Fast at times you need to focus on God. 

Today's Scripture: “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35, ESV  

Theme: Early morning prayers and fasting can become regular habits for us, just as they were for Jesus.  

Today's Scripture: "'Even now,' declares the Lord, 'return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning. Rend your hearts and not your garments.'" Joel 2:12-13a, ESV 

Theme: Fasting isn't a formula to make God respond—it's a physical expression of our hearts' desire to return to Him. 

Today’s Scripture: “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”’” Matthew 4:4, ESV 

Theme: When we fast, it helps us to remember that our lives depend on more than food as Jesus recalled when He was fasting.
