Thursday - A LIFE OF WORSHIP

A LIFE OF WORSHIP

Bernadette Keene

Today’s Scripture: “Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29, ESV

Theme: Our God is a consuming fire that cannot be shaken – He is worthy of acceptable worship, reverence, and awe.

MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE

When you hear the word “worship,” what is the first thing that comes to mind? My mind goes straight to Sunday morning service. Brothers and sisters in Christ singing and lifting their hands in worship to God. Corporate worship is a big part of our faith. The Bible encourages believers to “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; serve the Lord with gladness; come into His presence with singing!” (Psalm 100:1, KJV). God loves to hear and receive our songs and praises, and He deserves our praise and worship every day. From morning to night, all throughout my day, songs of praise and thanksgiving flow from my heart and lips. My love of the Lord and Him loving me back releases a constant flow of praise and worship that streams from a heart of gratitude. Some days I don’t feel as enthusiastic, but I worship God because He is good to me and carries me in my weakness. His kingdom can’t be shaken even on days when my faith is hanging by a thread. When the song in my heart can’t make it past the lump in my throat, I still have a heart of worship.

GOING DEEPER

Singing and lifting hands reflects a heart of reverence and awe, but true worship does not end there. Spending time in God’s Word and learning about His character, applying biblical precepts, and obeying God’s commands and instructions are all ways to live godly lives. Our attitudes, actions, and the practice of maintaining sound doctrine are all evidence of a Spirit-filled life, which in both good times and difficult times, is an act of worship. “Loving God means keeping His commandments, and His commandments are not burdensome,” (1 John 5:3, NLT).

Make It Personal: What are some ways that you can make your life an act of worship to God today? I encourage you to take time to go deeper in your worship by honoring God with your attitude, your actions, and by putting into practice the precepts He teaches us in His Word.

Pray: Lord, with all my heart I desire to live a life of worship to You. I desire to honor You in all my ways and bring glory to Your name. Help me to remember Your precepts and put each one into practice as a true act of worship to You. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
