Discussion Guide
We are starting a brand-new series this week where we will dive into the book of Romans. We want to show and encourage you that God’s word is all we need. Through this study, we will explore the profound truths that Paul shares and how they apply to our lives today. Let's prepare our hearts and minds to be transformed by His Word.
What you will need: A Bible or your Bible app, a notebook, pen, and highlighter. The verses highlighted below are linked so that you can easily access them during your study time.
Jump Start
1. What are some hesitations you have had in the past with studying God’s word? How will you make a commitment to begin reading Romans with our Church?
2. Read Romans 1:16-20. How does this shape our understanding of the importance of faith? How can you recognize God’s presence in the world around us? How does it impact your relationship with Him?
Notes: We are all created unique, so our relationship with God will be unique as well. Don’t compare each other's quiet time, just share what you are learning. He loves us and reveals Himself all around us. He also clearly shows us in His Word about Himself. We must take that next step of faith and trust He is who He says He is.
3. Read Romans 1:18-23. How do these verses challenge us to reflect on the state of our own hearts, and the world today?
Notes: This can be hard to take in. However, as shared in the weekend message the people got off track. They created God as they thought he should be. They traded truth for lies. We want to ask God to help us in this confused world, much like Paul's time, to be different and show the truth in our daily lives.
4. Read Romans 2:1-3. Why is it so easy to look at someone else’s sin over my own? How does this passage challenge us to examine our own hearts and actions before passing judgement on others?
Notes: How can we judge others when we are sinners ourselves. Most of the time we do the same things. We cannot rank sins; God sees them all the same. Talk through how God has been merciful to you and those around you. We can all be encouraged to hear how God is constantly at work in others' lives.
5. Action Step: This week, work through your Romans notebook. Schedule time out of your day to go to a quiet place alone with God. Pray and humble yourself, asking God to open your heart and mind to what He wants to show you. Go into this time seeking to learn more about Him.
